Are There Any Benefits To Earl Grey Tea?
It appears as if everyone these days is searching for some hidden benefit to the numerous foods and beverages they enjoy, and Earl Grey tea, with its long and colorful background, and the reality that it is so well known the world over, is not an exception.
Earl Grey tea is somewhat different from other classic teas, and it owes its distinctiveness to the presence of oils from the bergamot oil that is combined with the tea leaves themselves (Chinese black tea). Having said that, the question of possible health benefits (or risks) is a natural enough one.
Sadly, however, there haven't been any studies to date that have shown any exclusive properties of the tea that can make it any better than anything else at fostering good health (though, it must be said that there's nothing about the tea which makes it bad, either).
On the negative side, the closest that toxicology reports can come to paining the tea in a bad light are the fact that some studies have mentioned that using bergamot oils directly to the skin could cause a slight increase in redness and skin irritation after exposure to ultraviolet light. Having said that though, consuming teas having the oil have not been shown to trigger this in the slightest.
Another case study involved a man who drank a staggering four liters of Earl Grey tea daily, and shortly after, began reporting muscle pains. Again though, anything taken to excess is bound to cause complications, and the muscle cramps stopped when he reduced his intake, so until you plan to drink Earl Grey to silly kinds of excess, this isn't a concern either, and should never give you break.
All that to state, drink and enjoy! No, it won't make you live longer, make you better looking, or (by itself) improve your social life, but also, it won't hurt you! Gulp down!
